Alarmism and a New Initiative from the Int'l Chamber of Commerce
Maria Livanos Cattaui, Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce, had an alarmist anti-infringement op-ed published in the International Herald Tribue (Counterfeiting Is Out of Control). The article facilely conflates the very different policy issues regarding pharmaceutical infringement, product infringement and internet infringement, among others. Expect more of the same from their international initiative:
In recent months, more than 600 companies and organizations from all parts of the world, including Interpol, the World Customs Organization and the World Intellectual Property Organization, have joined together in Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy, a new initiative of the International Chamber of Commerce.
