Public Domain Enhancement Act Reintroduced
The INDUCE Act Blog reports that Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Ca) has introduced the Public Domain Enhancement Act in the 109th Congress as H.R. 2048 (Public Domain Enhancement Act).
The bill would let copyright owners pay a $1 maintenance fee to maintain copyright protection of a work beyond 50 years of the date of publication.
Although I'm not sure this bill has any chance (as a similar bill was ignored last session), in general I think that a requirement for a higher level of formalities to maintain copyrights would be a reasonable change to our copyright system.
