China's Censorship of Books Backfires
The Weekend Standard ("China's Business Newspaper") reports that Chinese efforts to censor books are backfiring. Banned books become more popular than ever (Big Brother's Book Ban Blues):
Nearly all books axed by Communist Party censors in recent years - running the gamut from erotic novels to critical exposes of corruption and peasant suffering - have become hot properties.
The internet also plays a role, of course.
