How Not to Advertise to J. Bradford DeLong
J. Bradford DeLong doesn't suffer fools gladly and he was anything but glad about Microsoft, McAfee and Epson (Life on the Hinterweb).
I don't like it when strange movies take over my computer and use it to display adware. I don't like it when Epson lies to me about the quality of Epson-compatible inkjet cartridges. I don't like it when McAfee makes it hard to avoid spending more on virus protection than I need to.

I saw this post at DeLong's blog. For those who don't know him, he's a Berkeley economics prof. who served under Bob Rubin in Clinton's Treasury Dept. and collaborated recently on a paper with Paul Krugman.
So he attracts a high-end readership, and I'm just an inoffensive party-crasher.
The comments were interesting. Hardly anything at all about whether those messages were appropriate. Instead, commenters immediately jumped to alternate suppliers. That would include dumping Microsoft for Macs or Linux.
Entire committees at Microsoft, Epson and McAfee apparently believe it's a good idea to annoy their customer base. Incredible.
