Never Trust Anyone Who Says 'Trust Me'
As part of his Bayosphere project, Dan Gillmor has put forth a "Citizen Journalism Pledge" (Let's Discuss the Citizen Journalism Pledge). It contains a number of unobjectionable bromides (fairness, thoroughness, accuracy, openness) and avoids some awful ones (such as objectivity). But I'm with Jeff Jarvis on this one, I don't really see the need (I Pledge Not To Pledge).
A pledge assumes ill will and mistrust, requiring that we promise we won't do something bad. If we're decent and you trust us, we shouldn't have to do that.
